Philosophy Statement: Student behaviors are the result of the interaction between the student and the environment. This interaction is influenced and affected by the skills and understandings of all participants within these environments. Healthy behaviors are the result of a healthy match between these two entities. Creating a healthy environment frequently requires education of the transactional partners within a student's environment and adaptations to that environment, as well as instruction to the student in the developmental and foundational areas that are the basis of identified challenging behaviors. Although identifying and implementing strategies that immediately address challenging behaviors and teach replacement behaviors is important, the goal should always be to develop the long term healthy match and functioning of both student and environment.
